STAAR was redesigned in 2023 to emphasize writing skills and a large variety of questions. The tests were administered online and graded programmatically with human oversight to reduce cost and make the grading more efficient and accurate. The results of tests taken between spring 2023 and spring 2024 have been assessed by CISD and the results suggest that students are still struggling with math scores. The biggest decline was noticed in the performance of seventh grade students whose scores dropped by 14 percent compared to 2023 followed by 5 percent for eight graders.
